Clinical applications of technology to outpatient physical therapy

Robert Scales, Ph.D. and Stephen Hunter, DPT (Intermountain Health Care) presented at the American Physical Therapy Association’s Council of Health Systems Physical Therapy NEXT Conference & Exposition in Chicago, IL (June 11-15th, 2019). Attendees heard how effective communication with motivational interviewing can enhance the clinical application of technology to an outpatient physical therapy setting.

Attendees were given four examples of technology, including the use of (1) touchscreen display monitors such as the Ipad or whiteboard when interacting with patients, (2) video recording and analysis with the capacity to send photographs/videos to the Electronic Medical Record, (3) movement sensor technology to quantify objective metrics of movement and performance and (4) Connected Health mobile device applications that enable clinicians to monitor and prescribe treatment plans to the patient at home. Connected Health in Preventive Cardiology and Rehabilitation

Ali Center Robert Scales, Ph. D. took time to visit the home of the “Greatest” during the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, September 11-15, 2018.

In a conference presentation he was joined by colleagues from Mayo Clinic cardiology to show how the organization is piloting the use of technology to enhance the patient experience and keep people healthy between the medical visit with a model of healthcare delivery called Connected Health.

The U.S. Ambassador to Slovenia greeted speakers from the United States in a private meeting prior to the 7th International Healthy Lifestyle Symposium. The speakers offered symposium attendees solutions to the ‘Rubik Cube of Workplace Health Promotion’.
